Celebrating Computer Science Education Week 2019 (#CSEdWeek)

This week (December 9-15) is Computer Science Education Week! Now in its tenth year, this annual event celebrated around the globe is dedicated to inspiring K-12 students to take an interest in computer science.
As an organization that is dedicated to advancing computer science and maker education in K-12 students and teachers across the United States, the Infosys Foundation USA is proud to support this great initiative. Throughout this week, we will be partnering with organizations across the nation to boost computer science learning.
Below is a look at what we have planned:
December 8:
Kicking off the CSEd Week early, we’re teaming up with Tech Kids Unlimited (TKU), a NYC-based nonprofit that teaches computer science thinking and technology to students with disabilities, especially those with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). In the third year of our partnership, we’ll host an event that gives students with special needs ages seven to 21 the opportunity to explore coding and create digital projects.
December 9:
We are supporting Digital NEST, a California-based nonprofit that looks to create sustainable and scalable technology careers for residents of low income and rural communities, to host an AgTech fieldtrip. In partnership with Xinampa, a local biotech organization, Digital NEST will use an Opentrons robot to introduce youth to biotechnology automation. This fieldtrip supplements coursework that teaches students in-demand and emerging skills in AgTech.
December 10:
Children in grades K-5 and their parent/guardian are invited to come to the Infosys Providence Design Hub for a free coding event. This event is being hosted with Family Code Night, which works to advance coding education nationally by having families and communities participate in a fun and engaging hour of coding puzzles.
December 11:
We will host a second Family Code Night at the Infosys Hartford Innovation Hub to advance coding education for K-5 students in the Hartford-area through family engagement.
December 14-15:
To close out the week, we will host a two-day ‘Spark Hart’ hack-a-thon in Hartford with Girls For Tech (GFT). GFT is a Hartford-based nonprofit that aims to empower the next generation of girls to explore opportunities in STEM. This weekend-long event will bring together about 100 local 8th-12th graders to work in teams to identify a socially relevant problem in their community and design a solution using AL/ML technologies. Teams will pitch their projects to an expert panel of judges for a chance to win various prizes.
