Celebrating "Esperanza y Tecnologia": Infosys Foundation USA supports Digital Skills of Latinx Youth

October 14, 2021

Infosys Foundation USA is thrilled to join the final days of the “Esperanza: A Celebration of Hispanic Heritage and Hope” celebration. This year’s theme serves as a reminder to reflect upon the immense contributions Hispanics have made in the past and to show that we are all stronger together going forward. “As an organization that is committed to bringing computer science to all, the Foundation is proud to support our partners who are committed to increasing the number of Latinx in the computing field. In recognition of Hispanic Heritage month, we are thrilled to announce new programs with with Digital NEST and the Televisa Foundation.

Digital NEST is a California-based, non-profit focused on creating future technology opportunities for Latinx high school students and recent graduates. Our partnership will highlight students who are participating in the NEST program on social media during Hispanic Heritage Month and CSEd week. By showcasing the stories of successful Latinx community members in the STEM and technology industry, Digital NEST aims to spread the message that “talent is equally distributed; opportunity is not”. This collaboration will also launch the new ‘Infy Latinx Scholars Program’ which offers scholars help with technology, mentorship and other support needed to showcase their culturally relevant student-to-student content on the Pathfinders Online Institute, the Foundation’s K12 digital learning platform of free Computer Science and Maker Ed materials.

It combines mass media outreach, technology, and pedagogy to inspire and support Latinx youth and their families. Through this new partnership, the Foundation will support the expansion of computer science education to 1,000 Latinx middle-school students on the Foundation’s digital learning platform, the Pathfinders Online Institute, through an initiative entitled Game, Set, Code! Further activities within this Latinx-focused partnership include virtual hack-a-thons for students in the Raleigh, NC and Phoenix, AZ areas; 20 coding workshops for middle school students; a potential in-person computer science festival and hack-a-thon in March 2022 in Phoenix, AZ; and access to 90 Spanish language CS instructional aides for K-8 teachers.
