MEDIA ALERT: Computing Pioneer Cynthia Solomon to Deliver Inaugural Seymour Papert Memorial Lecture

PALO ALTO --(BUSINESS WIRE)— Dr. Cynthia Solomon, a pioneer in educational technology, will deliver the inaugural Seymour Papert Memorial Lecture at CrossRoads 2018. A close collaborator of Papert, the role that Dr. Solomon has played in bringing computing experiences to children is comprehensive. This includes co-inventing Logo, the first programming language for children.

Personifying the enduring spirit of innovation in education, she will share her personal perspective on Papert’s research in learning theory--with its emphasis on child-driven, project-based learning. Dr. Solomon will also discuss the relevance of Papert’s ideas to today’s action items such as the every-child-learn-to-code movement, the maker movement, the development of various educational programming languages including blocks based languages like Scratch, Snap!, and GP, the development of programmable DIY kits with motors and sensors, and the educational benefit gained by making things that help one's community.
