Sanjeevani, the CSR wing of Trivandrum Development Centre (DC) along with Vaani, Deaf Children’s Foundation, Kolkata conducted an awareness program for Infoscions called Haat Se Baat Kar (Speak Differently). The program focused on how to address the much-overlooked problem with childhood deafness – communication with parents.
Besides providing an informative session on childhood deafness, volunteers organized a sign language learning session. English alphabets and common words used in sign language were taught. This was followed by a discussion on how children with deafness could be helped. Vaani has conducted similar events in Chandigarh and Hyderabad Development Centers.
A helpdesk was also set up for 4-days to answer queries and improve understanding of issues related to deafness among children.
