Saying NO to plastic poisoning

ELCITA (Electronics City Industrial Township Authority), Bengaluru, India imposed a strict ban on the use of plastic bags and other toxic and harmful plastic products in Electronics City, Bengaluru. A team of volunteers from Infosys took on the challenge to sensitize the local community about the specifics of the banned products and educate people about viable alternatives.

As part of the campaign, our volunteers reached out to hundreds of shops, restaurants, hotels and other small business establishments. They demonstrated the need to steer clear of polluting plastics, the penalty of non-compliance with ELCITA’s guidelines, and the benefits to the environment that the new recommended behavior would bring. Stickers and posters were distributed to sensitize the masses to converge their energies to build a plastic-free city. The volunteering team succeeded in their effort to create adequate awareness and adherence to the plastic-ban. Today, Electronics City and its neighborhood are 100 percent plastic-free.

As an Infosys volunteer commented,“This is but a small battle won in one little part of one Indian city. Clean India is our real mission.”  More power to doing more, being more!
